Turntable For One, Saturdays 9:00 - 11:00 pM
‘Round Midnight Jazz, Saturdays 11:00 pM
Turntable For One is two hours of music—mostly jazz-influenced, mostly vocals, mostly from the 1950’s to the present—organized around a theme that is mostly dictated by the tastes of the host who, each Saturday night, is seated at a “turntable for one.”
‘Round Midnight Jazz is an hour of mostly instrumental jazz with, as Bill tells us, “a couple of vocals thrown in to each program. Each show will feature a blend of eras, instruments, and artists. There will always be room for iconic musicians like Dizzy Gillespie or John Coltrane, but I also want to showcase current jazz performers along with young and emerging talent, especially the growing number of women jazz artists from all over the world. And my favorite pianists — people like Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans, and Kenny Barron — will always be on hand.”
H. William Stine is a writer and video producer who has been creating media for more than four decades. For 33 years, he served as Creative Director and Executive Producer for the American Cancer Society’s national office, first in New York City and later in Atlanta. During his tenure, Bill was responsible for creating hundreds of videos, live presentations, radio spots, print pieces, and web content. Thanks to a wide variety of assignments, he had the opportunity to work with many fascinating people, including President Jimmy Carter, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Tom Selleck, Bradley Whitford, Richard Thomas, Elliot Gould, and Danny Kaye. He has won more than 30 Telly Awards for the videos he has created to date.
He is also the co-author (with his wife, Megan) of more than 60 books for young readers. Together they collaborated on comedy scripts for a well-known New York radio personality and wrote television pilot scripts for CBS and ABC.
By joining WMNR, Bill returns to his first love – radio. Having started out as a young announcer at WOSU-AM-FM, where he hosted classical music shifts, produced a folk music program, and wrote and co-hosted a program of original comedy and album-oriented rock, Bill has longed to return to radio for many years. He joined WMNR in 2010 and hosts Turntable for One and ‘Round Midnight Jazz, programs in which he explores the vocal and instrumental jazz music he has loved his entire life.
