David in Master Control

David in Master Control

David Aldrich graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and was employed in the industry until retiring in 2008. He loves retirement; golf and bowling leagues, church activities, pet therapy with his Standard Poodles, time with his three granddaughters, concerts, shows, travel, a summer trailer in Rhode Island, and more with his wife Naomi, a singer and Musical Therapist.

David first came to WMNR Fine Arts Radio as a volunteer, answering phones during fundraising weeks. Inspired by the enthusiasm at the station, he completed his broadcaster training and did his first on-air show in July 2000. Since then, David has been bringing a variety of music to WMNR. He tells us he always starts his programs with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir whom he has seen live several times in Salt Lake City and at Tanglewood. David says his choices of music depend on what he feels like any given day and often his choices are spontaneous additions to the day's playlist.

Among his favorite composers are Raff, Beethoven, Brahms and Saint-Saëns. He also enjoys unusual and rarely heard music, as well as choral pieces such as masses and requiems by the greats. While he now has thousands of CDs in his personal collection, he well remembers the first classical CD he bought-- Ravel's complete ballet "Daphnis et Chloé," a gift for his wife.
