Since its founding, WMNR Fine Arts Radio has relied on volunteer broadcasters to fill the day with music. Our broadcasters choose pieces based on their own passion and interest, and an educated sense of what our audiences desire. Broadcasters are usually listeners first and come to WMNR after hearing an on-air appeal.
What does it take to become a broadcaster? At present, we are seeking people for classical music programs. You must have an understanding of the many genres of classical music and the ability to create balanced and varied program hours from these genres. You can work from your personal CD or digital collection, or make use of the thousands of CDs housed in the CD library at the station which are cataloged in our Music Librarian system.
As for technical expertise, after a successful audition period involving working with station staff on sample programs and recorded intros and outros, you will be trained to operate the board independently in Master Control. As the late opera host Doug Fox said “If you can drive a car, you can run the board.”
