WMNR Fine Arts Radio celebrated our 40th Anniversary year from June 6 to 11, 2022 by broadcasting some WMNR programs from our deep and rich archives.

Monday, June 6

3 to 5 pm ~ Monday Afternoon Classics with Garth Dimon. When he retired as the head of HR at Proctor and Gamble, he and his wife Sally built a home in Redding to host live performances. He loved lieder and his favorite singer was Dutch soprano Elly Ameling who he tried to entice to perform at his house. He also liked Jussi Björling. Garth always ended his program with “Auf Wiederhoren.” He was on air from 1993 to 2009.

5 pm ~ Adventures in Good Music with Karl Haas. From 1984 to 2007, WMNR broadcast Adventures in Good Music with Karl Haas each weekday at 5:00 pm. Beginning June 6, we will feature one of his programs each weekday for one week. Today’s program is “How to Listen to a Symphony.” This is the earliest available recording with Karl Haas.

Tuesday, June 7

5 pm ~ Adventures in Good Music with Karl Haas. Today, a discussion on the Romantic Piano featuring Karl Haas as both host and pianist.

8 pm ~ Evening at the Opera with Doug Fox. Doug was the co-founder of Evening at the Opera and hosted from 1983 to 2016. Tonight we will hear a 2009 program featuring in-studio guest Marta Eggerth, a 97-year-old Hungarian singer from "The Silver Age of Operetta." She is heard along with recordings of her husband Jan Kiepera. With co-host Marjan Kiepera, son of Martha and Jan Kiepera.

Wednesday, June 8

5 pm ~ Adventures in Good Music with Karl Haas. “The Gypsy in Their Soul.” Nomad songs from Hungary and Spain, filled with joie de vivre.

6 pm ~ Wednesday Evening Classics with Delphine Marcus (shown here), including her Film Hour at 8 pm, featuring the classic film scores of Erich Korngold.

Thursday, June 9

5 pm ~ Adventures in Good Music with Karl Haas. “Song and Dance.” Two musical forms are featured with Karl Haas as both host and pianist.

Friday, June 10

5 pm ~ Adventures in Good Music with Karl Haas. “The Story of The Cathedrals” with recordings from Venice, Paris, Spain, and more.

Saturday, June 11

Noon to 3:30 pm ~ Saturday Afternoon Classics with Nat Fields. Nat was an NYC accountant who bought a car so he could travel to WMNR to share his deep love of classical music. His love of the form took him from Tower Records on lower Broadway to Bayreuth, Germany.

6:30 to 7 pm ~ Swing and Jazz with John Danscuk. From 1980 to 2007 John Danscuk hosted Saturday nights from 9pm to midnight.

7 to 9 pm ~ BC's Band Corner. Bill Conners featured Big Bands on his Saturday night program from 1982 to 1990.
